And in Dreams

Media: Sketchbook Pro for pencils, and Photoshop CS2 for colours and inks.
Time: 10 minutes for pencils, 2 hours for colours and inks, 4 hours total (resizing, clean up, wings, etc.)
Date Completed: April 06 (?), 2009.

I used this for the first (and current) layout of And in Dreams. I really like how this turned out. I drew one wing in 2B pencil, then I had a moment of dumb.

"Why can't they just make a tool so that I can copy and reverse something? Drawing matching wings is hard!"

After that temporary brain vacation, I copied the wing, reversed it, and then decided to try something different. I went over the original pencils in the pen tool (3pt; do not simulate pressure) in a light blue and this is what I got! I think it's really rather wonderful.

I left the original pencil lineart in on the hair for detail, but since I didn't quite lower the opacity enough, it's hard to see. Apparently, I forgot to turn that layer back on. Whatever!

I'm still figuring how best to work with black as a hair colour and still keep the details. Any tips would be marvelous.

I've gotten a lot of useful feedback on this, and it seems like this is my most popular work this year. Simple, yet elegant.

Overall, I would say this is one of my best works this year.
